Technical Review on the Web |
The National Center for Optics and Photonics Education (OP-TEC) has received a supplemental grant from the National Science Foundation to explore the need and feasibility for a national multi-year project to initiate college programs to educate and train Precision Optics Technicians (POTs). Based upon preliminary research, there is strong demand for these highly skilled technicians but scarcely any capability in our nation’s colleges for preparing them. As a part of this grant OP-TEC is developing skill standards to help define what workers in this field should know and be able to do on the job.
This site presents a draft of these skill standards and has been developed so you can review the draft and provide input on its accuracy, currency, and relevancy. To accomplish this, you will go through this draft standards point by point; for each given point you will be given the opportunity to agree, disagree or offer suggestions for improvement. The whole process will take about 10 – 15 minutes.

Thanks in advance for your help!
